Tuai Cottage is located in the village of Tuai, 10 minutes drive from Lake Waikaremoana. Sit on the deck, look out over the bush to the hills beyond and Lake Whakamarino below. Wonderful trout are waiting in both this lake as well as Lake Waikaremoana. Walk the world-famous Waikaremoana Track.
Because we are roughly 45 minutes drive from Wairoa, try to bring as much food as possible for your stay. Our fridge/freezer should be able to store most needs. Alternatively a quick drive to the shop at the Lake Waikaremoana Motor Camp will give you heaps of basic foodstuffs.
Bus transport between Wairoa and Lake Waikaremoana can be arranged with Route 38 Shuttles (Tel: 021 042 9972)
The two main bedrooms contain queen size beds and the third - which can be used as a study - has two single beds.

Coming down from the Urewera gorge to the beauty of Lake Waikaremoana in fading dusk light was the precursor of something special. Spending two weeks exploring this region from the small neighbouring village of Tuai was idyllic. It`s a long trip indeed from Auckland but this really is paradise unspoilt. Remote and quiet, this was the most rewarding, relaxing and enjoyable of holidays by far (and with two rambunctious boys, aged 4 & 6 that`s saying a lot). We could fill a novel about the walking tracks (from easy-peasy to serious tramper), the lakes, the bluffs, the autumn light, the waterfalls, birdlife and the cottage itself (have to mention the broadband and free view TV). Just go, you`ll fall in love. There`s so much we didn`t get to do but guess that`s reason enough to justify a return.

Just wanted to drop you both a quick line. We really enjoyed our short time at your cottage, a gem hidden away for sure. Loved how the inside felt very comfortable, and like home. You must have put a lot of time into the house. And the Winitana’s went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. So thanks a lot, and we will definately recommend it to our friends.
